Pink Flamingos #FolksyFriday

I thought we`sd have some Pink Flamingo crafts with pictures and a few facts for you too, as something a bit different.
I seem to be on a bird theme at the, minute, with penguins yesterday and Flamingo`s today. I saw some on the Folksy front page the other day and thought how lovely they looked. I also decided there and then to have a look to see what I could myself sometime soon for a blog and here it is, sooner than I thought it would. Mainly because they were stuck in my head. Clearly it`s a case of once seen, never forgotten.
I hope you enjoy the amazing collection I have selected for you.
I was curious about the Flamingos so went and looked out a few facts about them. Apparently the first Flamingo born in a European zoo was in 1958 in Basel Zoo in Switzerland and was a Chilean Flamingo. Since then they have bred many more Flamingos in Basel and once grown have been distributed worldwide.
I looked for and failed to find the reason they stand on one leg. Some thought it might be to conserve body heat but they do it in warm water as well as cold.
Their colour apparently is due to their diet and water bacteria. The brighter the colour the healthier they are.
Can Flamingos fly? Yes they can and apparently can swim too.
As usual, to see a bigger picture or a description, just click on the item to view it in the shop.
ENJOY!!!

Right now it`s sunshine and showers
with wind battering the flowers.
The blossom this year is very late
but those strong winds just can`t wait
to blow them far and all around
like confetti covering the ground.
Blossom is never a lasting fixture
but is always pretty as a picture.
Will the trees fruit late this year
or will they ratchet it up a gear?
We`ve had hailstones that are really big
not that Mother nature cares a fig.
What`s next I wonder. Snow?
How far will this weather go?
Me, I`m hoping summer will soon be here
though not in May that seems clear!!

Pick Up A Penguin #Etsy

I`m not quite sure why but I had the urge to put penguins on here. I admit they are cute but quite why I had to show them now I have no idea. Let`s face it, they are more of a winter thing really, in terms of crafts anyway. Although to be fair I have seen them on quite a variety of crafts and it is winter somewhere in the world.
I should say `besides here`. I say that as although we had a brief couple of days of spring we know seem to be firmly fixed in winter mode once more. Wouldn`t you think that 7 months of cold would be enough for winter? I would too but it seems that nature has other ideas. The power companies must be rubbing their hands with glee as we all continue to put the heating on, racking up their profits.
Is it just me that resents spending all that money on something that is so overpriced it is raking in obscene profits for the power companies, not to mention the obscene salaries most of them take which adds to our costs. Grrrr!!!!!
Anyway, rant over. I was at work yesterday, busy all day. From Saturday I shall be another redundancy statistic, except in my case rather than look for another job I shall work longer and harder at my business and hopefully it will pay off and supply me with an income. I am looking at it as the next big adventure, doing something I love.
As usual, to see a bigger picture or a description, just click on the item to view it in the shop.
ENJOY!!!

Soon the big adventure will start
me and my real life job will part.
I`ve there for nearly 20 long years
I may even shed a few tears.
Even if I don`t, it will be sad
most of the time wasn`t half bad.
For many a year I loved what I did
until the owner decided to get rid
of the business that had belonged to his Dad
his priorities changed, it wasn`t a fad.
Life shouldn`t be all about work
although neither should we shirk.
Finding a balance, that`s the key
and that is a tough one for me.
I get a bit obsessed with the promotion
but that can cause rather a commotion.
I need lot`s of time for crafting too
making all these wonderful things for YOU.
I`m leaping into the future with glee
it`s a big challenge I love, for me!!

Animal Magic #Etsy

As you know I was away at the weekend and on Sunday we were discussing sayings and then moved on to animals. Specifically what were groups of them called. Some we knew and some were a surprise. Such as a `Crash` of Rhinos. Others were fitting. A Parliament of Owls, a Congregation of Alligators. Prickle of Porcupines. A Rookery of Penguins.
It does seem as though in some cases there is more than one name for a collective of some animal groups and it depends which site you are on which name is given. Some sites however give all the names.
We did find it all rather fascinating and some downright hilarious. I am sure it was nothing to do with the wine accompanying the meal.
Saturday we were out and about in Milton Keynes shopping Centre before having lunch out. Then it was a bit more shopping before heading for home. After walking the dog we crashed out for a couple of hours. Not something I can usually do in the day time, but this time I did and was out cold for over two hours. Felt pretty good when I awoke and slept well that night too.
Didn`t do much making while I was away but made an very good start on a crochet Scoodie pattern. Well, more than a start, it`s almost finished. Then it`s a case of transferring it to the computer. So it shouldn`t be long before it`s listed.
As usual, to see a bigger picture or a description, just click on the item to view it in the shop.
ENJOY!!!

A owl is quite a hoot,
small animals very cute.
Penguins seem very proud
while parrots are just loud.
Magpies collect all the wealth
while leopards move with stealth.
An elephant has a memory that`s long
and a massive body so very strong.
A horse so elegant, moving with style
a hyena with a perpetual smile.
Moving so slowly is the snail
travelling along a glistening trail.
Howe about a cute little mouse?
Wouldn`t want a real one in the house.
How about a cute little bunny
or buzzing bees making their honey?
Th magic of animals is just endless
with an animal you`re never friendless!!

Final Sharing #ForNow

This blog is a mix of advice from others that is very useful and helpful so I wanted to include it for you.
This advice from Di of Adien Crafts. Snippets taken from a larger description.
Your shop title is important.
This isn't your shop name, it's the line underneath your shop name. Use words in here that people will search for.
Have a go with Google Keyword helper. The Key Words you use in your Shop title, listing titles, listings etc really are KEY to getting found in Google searches as well as individual site searches.
Copied this from a Etsy SEO Specialist:
The keywords in the title should be used in the description text BUT do not all have to be copied from the title tag into the first line of the description.
It works better for Google SEO to use the keywords in real sentences that make sense. It is a good idea to use the primary keyword phrase within the first 140 characters of the description but it should be used in a real sentence that is readable. Google can tell the difference between good good writing and bad writing. Text that sounds bad can get caught in Google's Low Quality filter.

From Edwina of Handmade by Edwina.
If you are selling at craft fairs, always check what advertising is being done before you commit yourself (made a huge mistake over that!)
Found the organiser hanging a banner outside the venue about an hour before the fair was due to start – of course there were very few customers and no sales!
Also make sure you are organised with things like – how you are going to display your items – do you need baskets, rail, shelves, etc. to make the stall interesting. Don’t forget a float. Also think about how you are going to wrap the items – do you need paper bags or cello bags etc. Most of all be confident.

Now do you still really want to sell?
If so then you`re likely to do well.
You`ve seen how much there is to learn
and it hasn`t all made you turn
away and run for your life
so you must be ready for the strife.
It won`t be easy that`s for sure
but for crafter`s there is no cure.
It`s something we really have to do
making special things for you.
You see, I have a confession
crafting is a major obsession
all we can do is craft away
the same as we do every day!!

This advice from Leanne of Sew Perfectly You.
The past year has been a massive learning curve for me – believing in myself and my items, building self-confidence, learning about selling online and getting to grips with technology, craft fairs and marketing and PR (very scary!!!!!). So many lessons learnt, but some are:
I have had two items (a handbag and a tablet sleeve) returned because they were too small despite the dimensions being clearly shown in both cm and inches. Both times I offered to make replacement items at no extra cost. This kept both customers very happy and both were singing my praise online and by word of mouth!! A small cost to me but well worth the effort.
I have also learnt that when I follow my passion and make items that excite me they turn out well and get a lot of attention. When I make what I think potential customers would like they are always a bit disappointing.
Lastly and most important is to have courage and persevere, persevere, persevere!!!! It can be easy to feel despondent but believe in yourself and keep going. It will pay off in the end.

This advice is from Jo Sara of JoSara. Uniqueness is what sells.
Try and come up with your own unique style, and products. Don’t take inspiration from the High Street. You can’t ever compete with their buying power for prices, and if the product is already on the High Street, then it’s probably a saturated market. The best way to get customers is to offer something that they won’t be able to find anywhere else. A niche product. If you get customers for one product, and they like your style, they’ll probably come back for more another time.
Have a look at the Best Sellers chart on Folksy and see how most have a recognisable style. You’d know one of their pieces from just a picture, so they stand out amongst the crowd, which is a good thing when you are selling on a multi-seller site like Folksy. But they are all very different types of shops. And you’d be hard-pressed to find other items on sale anywhere like theirs.
The High Street is all about trends. Handmade is more about finding something special, that no one else has got.
