Proud to be British #FolksyFriday

I thought that I would be patriotic today. I am British and proud of it, although patriotism seems to have become rather a dirty word.
Although with all the big events happening this year, namely the Queen`s Jubilee and the Olympics, love for country does seem to be having a revival. Now if only the country`s so called government leaders started legislating for, instead of against Britain, we would be sorted, as they say.
Now I have nothing against any other country or religion, but cannot see why suddenly, in the last few years, anything remotely British should be put down.
It is diversity that makes life interesting and there should be room for all and all of those should be equal. No one is better than anyone else, no country is greater than another and no religion better than any other.
This is of course my opinion and everyone else is free to have their own. How much better though if everyone just agreed to differ. How much nicer if all people agreed they are equal, from the highest to the lowest.
Ooops, I seem to have got on my soapbox, just a little bit.
Does make me cross though when I see people putting others down because of the job they do or how they look, or where they come from. Underneath that thin layer that holds us together, skin, we are all made the same.
I`m going to stop there as I could go on for hours on the subject of man`s inhumanity to man. I`ll save the soapbox for another day.
Actually that`s not a bad idea. Maybe one day a week I`ll have a little soapbox day. I`ll have a rant, or share insights or ideas or whatever comes to mind. What do you think?

Are you proud to be British
or does the thought make you skittish?
No longer will we hide away
it`s time to take a stand today.
Lets wear the red, white and blue
it`s proudly there for me and you.
Wear as clothing, carry a bag
just proudly wave the British flag.
Let`s stand up and be counted
as our flag is raised and mounted
upon buildings and flag poles again,
no more feeling the pain.
Now it`s time to do what we do best
pomp and pageantry and all the rest.
Parades and crowds and the street party
just good fun, doesn`t have to be arty.
Time to cheer for Britain once more
it`s what being British is for.
So come on get out the Union Jack
there`s certainly no need to lack
for the colours that you seek,
we`re producing more every week.
Something here for one and all
what you have is your call.
Buy British though is all I ask
not such a very hard task.
Then we can stand tall and enjoy the glory
of patriotism but that`s another story!!

May Daze #Folksy

Today it`s for trying to get back on track, into the groove.... and stuff. I`ve not really got going much since my holiday, especially coming back a bit under the weather. This was of course drastically improved by having a wonderful birthday but didn`t help with the getting back into it all.
Regular blogging does take a lot of time and brain power.(Well I like to think so anyaway.) The chat bit doesn`t of course, because as you know, I find that easy generally. Although there are occasions when for some strange reason I can`t think of much to say, usually when I have been at work all day and feel exhausted.
Ooops, I`m digressing again.....shocking.
What was I saying? Ah yes, getting back on track.
Well this month I am going to try and take part in the daily listing club on Folksy again. Last month I managed about half the month, if that, due to holiday.
So I shall give it another go for May at least and then probably take 3 months off from listing to prepare for the winter season. But it does of course depend on how things go. If sales suddenly pick up then I will carry on for longer. I do of course want to make the time for all the new crafts I learnt, while away. Ideas are buzzing around in my head, so many ideas and so little time, as usual.
Anyway.... this months listing club on Folksy is called May Daze... and the name has finally clicked. Very clever.
As usual the inestimable Natalie will be at the helm, steering us all through the rapids to calmer waters when needed. Cheering us on and celebrating all good things, especially sales.
It does become rather an addiction, this listing club lark. The amount of times I`ve looked on the club thread and found myself clicking through all the listings without even thinking about it, is unbelievable. And that`s when I`m not taking part!
So today I am showing a selection from the May Daze listing club. I hope you enjoy these fabulous creations.

I can`t believe that May is here,
it`s racing away fast this year.
Summer should be sneaking in
but that idea is in the bin.
Instead we have endless rain
day after day and then again.
Riverbanks are starting to burst
yet still the ground does thirst.
Well, so these experts say,
what do they know anyway?
All we want is warmth and sun
preferably before the summer is done.
Maybe we are having bad weather now
so that soon a heatwave can take a bow.
Now wouldn`t that be divine
basking in the sun, so fine.
Actually we need our changeable weather
though it drives us to the end of our tether.
Else what would we all have to discuss?
If not the weather, to have a fuss!!

Wonderful Crafts #Etsy

What is going on with all this rain? It has been non-stop since I got home and apparently the same, pretty much, while I was away.
I did step on the scales this morning and I have put on 3lbs in weight, so it`s not too bad. Could be so much worse.
A few years ago I lost 5lbs on a cruise despite eationg twice as much as usual. I discovered on my return that my thyroid was very over active. Not nice at all as it made me feel very unwell for quite some time until it was finally regulated and back to normal.
Anyway I am digressing as usual. Hopefully you will soon be seeing new crafts from me as I learnt some new ones while I was away.
First one was corsages from organza pieces, very interesting and once you knew how, very easy to do. I was delighted with my efforts. The second class was making an indian purse. I went to those because I wanted to learn more embroidery stitches. Once again, they were easy once you knew how, although i have to say embroidery is time consuming. I imagine though, that like anything else, you would get quicker over time. I even learnt how to embroider a little mirror into place.
I will try and take some pictures if the rain ever stops and the grey goes away.
The third class I went to was beading. I learnt to make beaded rings, that can be used as rings for the finger, for napkins, scarves and so much more. It was very fiddly but quicker going once I got the hang of it.
The fourth class was something I have wanted to have a go at for a long time, wet felting. This was great fun and quite involved. We made a landscape picture that we added stitching to and then glued onto card. I just need to find out if the technique is the same for making scarves etc. Felted scarves look so spectacular, with such vibrant colours and styles, that I really want to make some myself. Anyway.... I am getting better quite quickly and hubby somewhat slower. I know he is improving as he is getting grumpy now, before he felt too ill, so I suppose that`s a good sign.
I am going to try and find a few things on Etsy to match the crafts I learnt.
As usual, to see a bigger picture or a description, just click on the item to view it in the shop.

I really don`t like this rain
I`ve woken up to it yet again.
The hosepipe ban started it all
now for months, it`s likely to fall.
Anyone know how to bring the sun back
before we all begin to lack
vital Vitamin D for our bones.
Not to mention melting ice cream cones.
Does that sound a wee bit weird
holiday addled my brain more than I feared.
Or maybe it`s become waterlogged
and like the ground has become bogged.
So much rain now it can`t go
the drains are full, no longer flow,
puddles are starting to get deep,
because the water just can`t seep
away so fast, too much coming down,,
at this rate we`ll all drown.,
Who would have thought a few weeks ago,
that nature would put on such a show.,
Everyone said we needed rain,
now all we say is `not again`!,
