Rapturous Red #Etsy

Going back to the colour alphabet and today it`s R, I decided to miss out Q altogether as the only thing I could come up with was Quartz. Couldn`t think of a colour at all, so I moved on. I decided that red was good, mainly because I couldn`t think of another colour that wasn`t a variation of red.
Did you like yesterdays blog with my needle felting efforts? This month there will be some days I miss out altogether on blogging, mainly because lot`s of people are away in August and it gives me the opportunity to get on with other stuff. And of course the children are on their school holidays so I have the younger ones some of the time when my daughter works. I wouldn`t want to miss out on time spent with them, they grow up so fast and I get so much enjoyment from them all. It`s wonderful to introduce them to different aspects of creativity as well as doing stuff like playing in the garden and bouncing with them on the trampoline.
Once that time is gone you can never get it back, each moment is precious.

ENJOY!!!

Summer has barely started and already
the decline is slow but steady.
The nights are already pulling in
against nature we cannot win.
The cooling down has begun
with more rain and less sun.
Thoughts turn to Autumn days
while yearning for the heat haze.
Still so much stuff to be done,
holiday time in which to have fun.
The winter was far too long,
a short summer would be wrong.
A long summer would be better
not an August getting wetter
by the week and the day
just why, I really cannot say!!

Needle Felting Fun

Going for something completely different today. I`m going to write a bit about what I`ve been doing lately and my new skill I`m perfecting.
Now you know that I`ve been needle felting for a while, making textile art pictures and turning them into sewing cases, pincushions and lavender bags too when I get the sewing machine out again. I confess to having a pile of pictures ready to be sewn, not my favourite task.
Here they are, although I think there are more safely put away, I`m sure I`ll come across them.

Last year I had a go at needle felting sculpture. After a few false starts I came up with this angel. I kept going until it was finished although I wasn`t happy with it. I may well try and improve it.

The wings were fine, the body could be better but the face wasn`t right and I could have done with some curly wool for the hair. Ah well.

So then last Saturday, after seeing needle felted animals during the week, I decided to have a go once more. I started off with the intention of making a sheep and instead made a polar bear. That was even before I realised I still didn`t have any curly wool. I had made a start doing a basic shape with wire and then found myself looking at pictures of polar bears on google. Ooops.

I even did the pads on his paws.

I was quite pleased with the way he turned out.

I love making a new creation
it`s always a cause for celebration.
Nothing like trying the new,
so engrossed, never feel blue.
Once I`ve started I cannot rest
however much it puts me to the test.
I`ll try and then do it again
until it nearly sends me insane.
I`m stubborn and won`t be beat
I tend to pause only to eat.
When I began the polar bear
I started blithely without a care.
Then it got tricky and trickier still
but I was held there by sheer will.
I had to add every single detail
include it all without fail.
Now I can say long and loud,
of this polar bear I`m proud!!

Then Sunday I started another polar bear, a bigger one, determined that this would be much better. Being bigger though it was taking much longer and eventually I stopped and left it to finish later.

Then I got up yesterday morning and decided I wanted to make a robin. Quite why a robin I don`t know. So first I made a frame, probably bigger than I should. I wanted it to look realistic didn`t really stop to think it would be bigger than they really are.
Which meant of course that it took a very long while, most of the day, just to get to this point. Hmmmm.

Copper #Etsy

This blog was a treasury for Fiona of Fiona K Designs who was the British Crafters treasury winner for last week.
This means that the treasury she made for the previous weeks winner received the highest number of views out of those participating.
Fiona`s bio says.
I have been making jewellery for friends and family for many years. Last year I discovered Chain Maille and fell in love! Now I am concentrating on making new designs in Chain Maille and thought I would share it with everyone.

Fiona`s shop hasn`t been open very long, only since June this year. It looks absolutely gorgeous as does her beautiful jewellery. Do pop by for a browse if you get the chance
Visit all the other wonderful shops on show today too. You never know what you`ll discover that will make the ideal present for someone or gift for yourself.

ENJOY!!!

I`d been feeling weary and low
definitely had lost my glow.
Then I looked up at the sky
and saw it gleaming on high.
A rainbow growing ever bright
such a wonderful uplifting sight.
It stayed there glowing awhile
and it really made me smile.
It made me feel really good
just the way I normally would.
Things like that help us cope
because they always give us hope.
Bringing magic into our life,
to help balance out the strife.
I love to see the vibrant glow
and watch the way the colours flow!!

Twitter Help

This blog started with someone on Etsy, Gerry of Gourmet Felted asking me about showing pictures on twitter.
Then I was asked what this # meant.
From there I started busily writing and waffled on before catching myself and screeching to a halt. That`s when I decided to do this blog. Sort of a brush up reminder again.

# That`s called a hash tag.
When you add that to a word you are drawing attention to it. It`s used before a relevant phrase or keyword so it can more easily be found in a twitter search.
If you click on a word that has a hash tag it will bring up other tweets with the same hash tags. When particular hash tagged words become very popular it is called a Trending topic. To have your hash tag trending is highly sought after.
There are people that support small businesses on twitter and they offer hash tags to use for a retweet. A retweet of your tweet means you have a whole new audience for that tweet and the possibility of it being tweeted onwards still further.
The whole idea of twitter for businesses is to network. Get to know more people and widen the scope of possible customers and to connect with like minded individuals.
If you see someone is looking for a particular service that you know is another of your followers business, then you put them in touch. If you help others they will help you. That is a maxim I believe in and though it may not happen all the time it is more often than not.

I`m still learning too as far as social media goes. I learnt yesterday that it is better to have fewer Hash Tags than more.
I had been going blithely along convinced that the more the merrier was the way to go, apparently not. So now I will have to scale mine down. Oooops.

I have also learnt over time that you have to try and be interesting on twitter to keep followers or gain more. In my early days I was a bit sporadic with my interest in twitter and really had no idea what I was doing. Every so often I would try following people to try and gain more followers but it didn`t really help much and then I would lose interest again.

Then someone did a `how to` on Twitter on a forum and suddenly I `got` it. Those words of wisdom made sense. If you put nothing but selling tweets it`s boring to read.
Those words were obvious really but until I saw them in print I hadn`t really thought about it. We were told to interact with people, do some interesting tweets etc and re tweet tweets that we found interesting.
There was also the etiquette part. Someone retweets for you? Then you thank them or retweet the same amount of their tweets, or both. As the amount of retweets you have to do grows it becomes impractical to do both, although it is polite to say thank you every so often as well.
All common sense when you stop to think about it.
I no longer randomly follow people, in fact I stopped after those first attempts. If someone follows me, I will look at their timeline and if I like what I see then I will follow back. If I get a message demanding I Follow Back then I won`t.
Someone did this recently and I had already followed back before seeing that message, I immediately Unfollowed and pointed out that it`s a choice NOT a right.
So really as far as it goes, just be yourself. Chat as you would to anyone you meet in real life, be pleasant, have a joke and help out where you can.
Good luck!!

Thank you.
I hope to see you again soon.
