Horses #Handmade #Folksy

A glance at Folksy`s front page after I logged in gave me an idea. So I put horses into the search and came up with some lovely ones. Delighted with what I found I decided to put some of them on here. I thought it would be a nice change as I have never featured horses before. Well, to be honest it never occurred to me until now. I hope you like the selection I have chosen for you and if you want to see more, do go to Folksy and do the same as I did. If you love horses it`s worth the effort.
The Pinata didn`t get a look in today. It was so grey and blowy that I decided not to as the paper would have been blown about. Just didn`t fancy flour and water paste splatted all over me again. So you`ll have to wait for another update. No chance today as I am at work, so it will probably be tomorrow before I do anymore. That means the update will be Monday. Sorry about that.
I have been working on something that will have you throwing up your hands in horror...... I`ll whisper.... Santa Hats. Just in the trial stages at the minute as I don`t use patterns. Often takes a few goes to get it right. I do intend to write it down as I go along so that I can make a few. They won`t be exactly the same but hopefully will be similiar. I`ve got some red sparkly yarn that I thought would look great and some fluffy white yarn to finish it off with. Just have to see how it turns out. Could be a disaster that never really gets off the ground, we`ll see.
I had intended to start on some finishing but got sidetracked with a new idea. I`ve got a lovely yarn that shades from white through to a dark pink and wondered what it would look like as a snood. You know, a long circular piece that goes over the head and can be used like a scarf but also can be pulled up like a hood. I`m doing it in a lacy pattern and it`s coming along nicely, I`m pleased with the effect so far. Too many ideas running through my brain at the minute.
Okay I think I`ve waffled enough.

A horse is a magnificent beast,
for the eys a wonderful feast.
Some of them stand very tall
yet others are quite small.
A pony is more a childs size,
a lesson or two, a great prize.
Then they grow up wanting a horse
it`s the natural order of course.
The joy of riding atop all that power
not deterred by as much as a shower.
The freedom, the pleasure and delight,
a horse and rider a wonderful sight.
A gleaming coat, a wonderful carriage,
for horse and rider, a bit like a marriage.
They work together in unison
like a unit till the ride is done.
Gymkhana`s, showjumping and more
all get the horseman out of the door.
Eager to be free and ou there flying
hearing the wind rushing and sighing,
thundering hooves along the ground,
now isn`t that a wonderful sound.
I used to ride when I was young,
never once did I get flung
off the saddle, cos I held on tight
I didn`t intend to take flight.
Now it`s something from the past
another fad that didn`t last!

Fairies #FolksyFriday

My Folksy friday theme today is Fairies. There are so many lovely creations featuring fairies that I thought it would be nice to share them with you. Not an original idea I must confess as I did see something about fairies on one of the forums which gave me the idea to put them on here.
I suppose I shouldn`t be confessing that really, I should just say that the idea was all my own and take all the credit. Except I would feel guilty about fibbing and I would only have to change it to the truth.
Okay then, Pinata update.
I put the two paper covered balloons in the greenhouse to dry overnight and when I looked yesterday morning I had to laugh. The sight was quite funny. I must have looked daft though laughing at the greenhouse. The balloon that we thought was going down actually did, all the way. The paper cover sat on the floor in the dirt(I hung them from some staging). It was still roundish, just a bit flat where it landed. In the afternoon I got the oddly shaped one out and glued toilet rolls to it for legs. Now that wasn`t as easy as it sounds. I decided to use Loctite glue, thinking it would stick anything and be better, easier and faster. Hmm... Well I almost stuck my fingers together and it took several goes of each leg to get them to stick. I suppose the paper and cardboard was absorbing it quicker than it was sticking it together. Eventually though, half a bottle of glue later, they did stick.... sort of. Then I made more flour and water paste to finish holding them in place. When i had finished I was quite pleased with my efforts. Okay the legs weren`t exactly symmetrical... okay, stood on its legs later it wobbled. But I think it adds to it`s charm. When my hubby nudged it and it rocked, I told him that it was meant to look as if it was running. His sceptical look said it all really. But I shall plow on and hopefully add more to it today. My fingers are now glue free you will be pleased to know, I just no longer have finger prints.... joke... sort of.

Fairies are things of myth and magic
without them life would be tragic.
We all need a little magic in our lives
to help us keep busy in our hives.
Like little bees we buzz around
trying to keep our feet on the ground.
Fairies, they fly here and there
we hope they have magic to spare.
Not just for children you know
believing can help us grow
into very creative folk
and no, it`s not a joke.
Imagination is a wonderful thing
think of all the joy it can bring.
It lifts us up when we are down
and takes away the grumpy frown.
It gives us dreams to strive for
and keeps us rushing out the door.
To work, to learn, to get things done
so we can get home to creative fun.
It makes us work hard and strive
so we can keep the dream alive.
We all need a little of that fairy magic,
cos without imagination our lives would be tragic!

Delectable Crafts #Handmade #Folksy

I had intended to put new shops on here today but I kept coming across various things that I just had to include because I thought they looked so lovely. There are some new shops too but also other shops that are new to me and some you have seen on here before, but obviously have new listings to be shown. What can I say, I am clearly weak willed and unable to stick with the original theme. I think you`ll still like the wonderful creations I have unearthed especially for you to see today.
Okay a quick update on the Pinata from yesterday:
The two balloons covered for the Pinata`s are still drying out. I think we got a bit carried away with covering them, not sure how even they are either, due to everyone having a go. What is quite funny is that one of the balloons appears to be going down so it feels rather squashy. I`m hoping that once it is dry it will be better.... Well it`s good to have hope. All I can say is that it`s a good job we did two. That way at least one will hopefully survive and eventually vaguely resemble the Pinata I saw on the original blog tutorial. Not holding out a great deal of hope but we`ll give it a go anyway. So today, if they are finally dry, we will be adding more paper and maybe some legs... Fingers crossed. I may wear an apron this time in the vain hope that I won`t get quite so much over my clothes.
The older two grandchildren popped round for a visit late afternoon and they thought the saggy balloon looked quite funny. Actually it did look kind of weird. More on this tomorrow.

Rain, rain please go away
come back another day.
Why can`t it rain at night
that would solve my plight.
If I get wet I might melt,
...even turn into a piece of felt.
Is it possible do you think?
The thought makes my heart sink.
Maybe I`d better stay in bed
but then how would I get fed?
Now I don`t know what to do,
better take a brolly & coat too.
I don`t like a long grey day,
it doesn`t stop the kids at play,
but it makes everyone feel down
I know, I`ve seen many a frown.
It`s the summer time of year
but not really summer, I fear.
A bit of warmth and a bit of bright
would be a very welcoming sight!
So sun come and please stay
and warm up this chilly day.
All we want is the summer bright
it would be a very welcome sight!

Eye Catching Crafts #Handmade #Folksy

Have decided to go for random listings today. All those wonderful things that make you look twice. Scrolling through the new listings on Folksy I kept finding gorgeous things that caught my eye because they seemed to stand out. So I decided that I would have to have them on here.
Well yesterday I looked after the 4 grandchildren while my daughter was at work. For those that didn`t see yesterdays blog, I decided it would be fun to make a Pinata for the 4 yr olds 5th birthday in a couple of weeks. I spotted a blog tutorial and thought it looked fun and easy. Hmmm.... It started off easy.
I laid everything out after covering the table. This was of course outside which turned out to be the best idea I had had. The 2 yr old refused to wear an apron and didn`t want to take part, fair enough. The 4 yr old was very keen, while the older two hadn`t made it downstairs at that point.
So we mixed flour and water and ripped up lengths of newspaper after hanging the balloons from the washing line. Inspired I thought. Hmm.... It was up to a point. We made a start and it was a bit messy but we were having fun. The 12 yr old joined in closely followed by the 14 yr old and her friend. Then we thought, there are more balloons and we could blow them up bigger. How about if we have a go at making an elephant!
The other year in Norwich, lots of groups and schools made and decorated elephants and they were put in various places around the city. At the end of the summer they were auctioned off for charity.
The children all loved them, hence the idea to have a go at making one. So bigger balloons and more of us meant another bowl of flour and water paste. So they we all were dripping lovely white blobs all over the patio and over ourselves too. The little one thought it was funny to go backwards and forwards under the balloons in spite of the older ones telling him no. That happened while I was mixing more flour and water. Not sure the consistency was right, maybe I should have read the instructions a bit more. Still we did have a laugh and by the time we had finished adding layers the patio area and ourselves were quite a sight. By this time the floor was nearly all white and we weren`t much better. It was in our hair and on our faces and all over our clothes and shoes. Well, I say shoes, I actually still had my slippers on. Suffice to say that you can imagine the state of them. Now the ballons have been left to dry before more layers are added.
More tomoorow, if they have dried.

School holidays are lots of fun
tired and weary when the day is done.
Lots to do and places to go
summer days in the flow.
Lazy days no timetable to keep
no following the crowd like sheep.
Look in the library and on the Net
find what`s happening and get set.
Picnics out and playing in the park
holidays are great and such a lark.
Now all we want is the summer sunshine
for long days outdoors we need it fine.
My lot have got into finding treasure
they seem to have got it`s measure.
Geo Cache seems the thing to do
all you do is follow clue after clue.
Or like us you can do a craft
so enjoyable we laughed and laughed.
A little forthought would have been better
and followed the instructions to the letter.
That way there would have been less mess,
hard work clearing up, I must confess.
You don`t have to spend lots of money
when there`s so much to do for free!
